St. Francis High School
St. Francis High School in Sacramento, California was designed to maximize energy efficiency while providing a high-performance environment for its students through the use of Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights. The entire campus is daylighted throughout, utilizing Sunoptics Pyramid and Double Hip Prismatic Skylights with light control louvers for full lighting control. The use of the Sunoptics LCM 1000 light control system gives teachers the ability to utilize the energy efficiency of daylighting with combined control of the electric lighting system, as well as the ability to shut off the natural light for such things as video presentations. St. Francis High School is another example of an educational facility that utilizes 85% less electric lighting systems during the high-energy, high-demand times of the day, while providing a more productive environment through human performance. Third party studies have verified that the student with the most amount of natural light will perform as much as 20% better in math, 26% better in reading and have less absenteeism. High-performance daylighting in schools is a win for the environment, a win for the student and a win for the school's budget through efficiency.
