When Office Depot decided to create an energy efficient retail design for their new Wheaton, Maryland store, they turned to Sunoptics for their high-performance daylighting needs. Office Depot had utilized sun tracking mirrored skylights in another store design and found that the light quality and output of the Sunoptics Signature Series prismatic skylight not only outperformed the mirrored skylights, but that it was a more cost effective solution with almost zero maintenance. Dimming ballast florescent lighting technology is utilized in the stores to dim down until off when the prismatic skylights fill the space with flicker-free, glare-free, carbon-free natural light. With Sunoptics, Office Depot was able to achieve their high-performance energy needs while providing natural lighting to the space that has been proven in third party testing to dramatically increase retail sales in the process.
