79 4'x8' Signature Series skylights which are glazed with a 50% impact modified clear prismatic acrylic over high white prismatic acrylic were used to daylight this facility.  The skylight frames have an insulated thermal break which eleminates any exposed metal on the inside of the building.  This standard feature on all SUNOPTICS double and triple glazed skylights, greatly reduces any chance of condensation forming during the cold winter months.

Vella Campus has all the tools to be one of the most energy efficient schools in the United States .  Every classroom, the gymnasium, cafeteria, wood shop, and library are all day-lighted using Sunoptics Day-lighting Systems.  When you think of a schools energy usage, two things come to mind; the electric lighting, and the HVAC.

At 50 foot candles of designed light level, Vella Campus has the ability to keep their lights off 85% of the year and at the same time reduce their air-conditioning loads.

Sunoptics 5’0” x 6’0” Signature Series Double Glazed units using Impact Modified Clear Prismatic Acrylic over High White Prismatic Acrylic are used to daylight more than 2,200 Walmart stores nationwide.  The skylight frames are insulated with thermal breaks that greatly reduce the chance for condensation during winter months.

During the early stages of construction, no electric lights are needed inside the building which otherwise would require many electrical cords strewn throughout the site to perfom the required work.

With the skylights installed, light levels average just over 100 foot candles throughout the building.
