1. Clear skylights let in direct sunlight, causing "a wandering hot spot" that can fade carpets and furnishings and cause uncomfortable glare and UV damage from the sun. Translucent skylights are simply designed to knock down the light in an attempt to diffuse the light. Our products have been third party tested to provide more than 35% greater light transmission then conventional skylights while providing 100% diffusion.
   
   Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights have thousands of tiny prisms (a minimum of 4,000 per square foot per glazing layer). The prisms refract sunlight into micro light beams, spreading the sun's bright natural light throughout the space. This reduces the sun's intensity without minimizing the daylighting opportunity. With prismatic skylights there is no direct sunlight, therefore no damaging "hot spots."

Why are Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights better than conventional electric lighting?

Daylight is one of the coolest forms of light. Sunoptics skylights can replace electric lighting for up to 8 hours a day during the daylight hours while producing much less heat than electric lighting. Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights provide two times more light than high efficiency fluorescent lighting systems for the same amount of heat production making it the most efficient light source per lumen output.

1. Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights have the highest performance and light transmittance of any standard domed skylight in the marketplace.
   
   For 30 years we have used prismatic lenses exclusively for all of our skylights. We manufacture all of our prismatic lenses to maximize visible light transmittance through the skylight opening while offering optimum light distribution. The result is a softer, natural light with no “hot spots” when compared to standard skylights.
    
2. All Sunoptics double and triple glazed skylights come standard with an insulated, condensation-resistant, thermally broken frame with integrated exterior weeping wells.
   
   Condensation is often misinterpreted as a skylight leak and occurs when enough water forms on the interior exposed area of the skylight frame and begins dripping from the skylight opening. Our high-performance design utilizes a fully insulated, thermally broken frame which means our units have no exposed metal to the interior of the building, greatly reducing the formation of condensation on the interior of the skylight frame.

   Our patented Signature Series dome shape maximizes lighting performance at low sun angles while offering superior strength when compared to standard skylights. The resulting skylight provides better quality light for more hours during the day. While Sunoptics always recommends a Safety-Security Guard, all Sunoptics signature domes pass a 200 lb. drop test from 2’ above the highest part of the dome as well as a 500 lb. in one square foot point loading test. This is not a building code requirement; it is a Sunoptics requirement that proves our products are built to last.

   Our company manufactures the highest quality extruded prismatic sheets available, setting us apart from our competition. Our multiple dome shapes and styles are made from multiple grades of impact modified clear acrylic or high grade polycarbonate with the highest level of structural integrity available in the market place. Sunoptics also regrinds all of it’s post industrial scrap material allowing us to provide a minimum 50% post industrial recycled content in our plastic.
